Court extends detention of general Usubov’s son in smuggling case
Farid Usubov, the son of Major General Jebrail Usubov, has appeared in court in connection with a cigarette smuggling case involving about 5 million manats.
According to haqqin.az, the state prosecutor requested an extension of the pre-trial detention measure. The Binagadi District Court granted the motion and extended Usubov’s detention by three months.
Farid Usubov previously served as head of the port unit of the Main Customs Department for Maritime Transport and Energy Resources under the State Customs Committee.
He was detained two months ago by the Anti-Corruption Directorate under the Prosecutor General.
Media reports say he is the son of Major General Jebrail Usubov, who previously served as deputy head of the State Protection Service.
