Azerbaijan passenger traffic rises in January, freight dips

Azerbaijan transported 18.3 million tonnes of cargo and 167.8 million passengers in January 2026, the State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan said. Freight volumes fell 0.4% year-on-year, while passenger traffic rose 6.8%.

Road transport accounted for the largest share of freight at 59.0%, followed by pipelines at 30.6%, rail at 6.7%, maritime transport at 3.6%, and air transport at 0.1%.

Passenger transport was dominated by road travel with an 88.8% share, while metro services accounted for 10.5%, with other modes making up only a marginal share.
