Ministry of Health: Annual growth rate of population - 15.6%

Deputy Health Minister Elsever Agayev said that over the past 10 years, the birth rate in the country has increased from 8% to 15.6 %, while the annual growth rate is 12.7 % - the highest in Europe.

The surveys were conducted in the Baku , Absheron , Ganja- Gazakh , Sheki- Zagatala , Guba- Khachmaz , Aran , Lankaran , Karabakh and Upper Shirvan economic regions .

Questionnaires included the characteristics of households , height, weight and hemoglobin levels among children under five years and 9381 women aged 15 to 49 years, as well as information on the socio - demographic characteristics , fertility , post-natal care , immunization and child health , nutrition of the mother and the child , and marital status.

Note that according to official figures , the population of Azerbaijan is currently about 9.5 million people. At the same time, child mortality remains high. There are serious problems with the provision of maternal and newborn babies' health .
