Weapons found in Baku belonged to terrorists? - Investigation

Weapons found in Baku belonged to terrorists? - Investigation

A significant amount of weapons and ammunition has been found in Baku. According to the Binagadi District Police Office, a large number of weapons and ammunition was found at 54 Shamsi Rahimov Street this morning. The possibility that these weapons belonged to a particular terrorist group tends to zero. However, no country can be immune from terrorist acts and in Azerbaijan also sometimes skirmishes occur between armed groups, indicating the volatility of the situation. The terrorist act in the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy, which occurred a few years ago, still dominates the minds.

The head of Center for Research in Security, a former police officer, a political scientist Ilham Ismail in his interview with ANN.Az believes that the found weapons cannot be unambiguously associated with terrorism.

Ismail said that the law enforcement agencies themselves periodically perform such activities in order to prevent real ones: " One cannot say that this weapon belongs to a particular terrorist group. In times of war in Karabakh there were enough weapons at people. Perhaps they belonged to someone who subsequently decided to get rid of them. At the issue there is another side - the law enforcement agencies sometimes hold exercises. Therefore, one cannot say that the weapons belonged to terrorists. Terrorist groups do not usually keep all the weapons in one place. They keep them in different places so that they all could not be immediately detected. Further prognosis can be given after receiving information from the law enforcement."

He also added that, having considered the photos of the weapons, he came to the conclusion that they belonged to a group of landing troops: "I looked at the photographs of the weapons, they look like weapons belonging to a group of paratroopers. There's a sniper rifle and most of the automatic guns are short ones. It cannot belong to terrorists. Someone hid it in case of need in the future and did it so that it could not cause any problems. But after a time passed, it went out of order and was thrown to the trash dump to avoid problems. It is one of my versions," Ismail said.
