The traffic police in Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku, dismissed media reports that its deputy chief Hasan Shirinov has been sacked for misguiding a presidential convoy.

"Maj.-Gen. Hasan Shirinov is continuing to work as deputy head of the Baku traffic police,” it said in a statement on Jan. 7.

Pro-government news website haqqin.az had earlier said Shirinov lost his job for mistakenly leading the convoy in a wrong direction, after which President Ilham Aliyev was reportedly stuck in a traffic jam in Baku.
