Gazprom to continue buying Azerbaijani gas

Russia’s energy company Gazprom will continue buying natural gas from Azerbaijan, a company official told Trend news agency on Feb. 9.
"The purchase of gas will be carried out in accordance with previous agreements and the contract that's in force,” the official said.
The deputy chairman of the Gazprom board, Alexander Medvedev, had earlier said the company doesn’t need gas supplies from abroad and plans to reduce purchases from Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan by almost 10 billion cubic meters this year.
Azerbaijani gas is supplied to Russia under a purchase and sale agreement singed by Azerbaijan’s State Oil Company (SOCAR) and Gazprom in Baku on Oct. 14, 2009.
Last year SOCAR exported 207 million cubic meters of gas to Russia, down from 1.37 billion cubic meters in 2013.
