SOCAR blames European bureaucracy for delay in Desfa deal

SOCAR blames European bureaucracy for delay in Desfa deal
19.03.2015 17:30
Rovnaq Abdullayev, president of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR, has said an agreement signed last year to buy the Greek gas distribution company Desfa is being delayed by "European bureaucracy”.

The European Commission launched an investigation to find out whether the agreement is in keeping with European law.

The new government in Athens has said it respects the previous government’s decision to sell Desfa.  Even so, the Greek authorities aren’t helping to resolve the issue, Abdullayev complained.

SOCAR is committed to the Desfa deal, which is a profitable project, he added.
