Mourinho throws his Community Shield runners-up medal to a young Arsenal fan

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho handed a young Arsenal fan a unique memento of their Community Shield victory as the Blues boss threw his runners-up medal into the stands on Sunday.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain grabbed a first-half winner for the Gunners as the Barclays Premier League champions were put to the sword at Wembley, and Mourinho was not best pleased.

The Portuguese coach did not shake hands with counterpart Arsene Wenger after Arsenal collected their medals and gave away his own prize to the delight of one young supporter.

And Mourinho made it clear he was unhappy with the result after the defeat signalled his first failure against familiar rival Wenger in 14 meetings.

'It's the medal for the loser, it's a good memory for him,' the 52-year-old said of his decision to give away the runners-up token. 'Chelsea was the best team, had the more initiative, had good control, good ball possession.

'But you know it is that moment of the season where everyone is behind - the energy, the intensity to turn results is more difficult because people are not sharp, and don't have intensity.

'Arsenal defended with a very low block, they defended with 10 men, they put everybody in front of their line with very good organisation so... congratulations.'

The Gunners spent much of the second half on the back foot after Oxlade-Chamberlain's 24th-minute strike but kept Chelsea at bay with the Blues being restricted to few clear-cut chances.

Ramires headed wide when unmarked before Petr Cech saved from former team-mate Oscar but Arsenal could have wrapped it up with chances for Santi Cazorla and Kieran Gibbs.
