Rosatom: Construction of Akkuyu facilities in Türkiye ahead of schedule

Russia’s state corporation Rosatom is building the turbine halls of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in southern Türkiye ahead of schedule, three of the four facilities will be ready in 2023, General Director of Akkuyu Nuclear JSC Anastasia Zoteevasaid, reported from TASS.

"We are building our turbine halls faster than planned. I think that by the end of this year, maybe three of the four turbine halls will be ready, and next [year] we will complete the fourth,” she noted.

The ceremony of delivery of the first nuclear fuel for the first block of the nuclear power plant is scheduled for April 27 in Mersin. Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to attend the event through video conferencing. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also intends to take part in a video link after the cancellation of a trip to the Akkuyu nuclear power plant due to poor health.

Akkuyu is the first nuclear power plant under construction in Türkiye. The project is being implemented on the basis of an intergovernmental cooperation agreement concluded between the Russian Federation and Türkiye on May 12, 2010. Rosatom State Corporation is the majority shareholder of Akkuyu Nuclear, which has assumed obligations for the design, construction, maintenance, operation and decommissioning of the plant.
