Russian Ambassador: Karabakh issue was resolved in September

Russian Ambassador: Karabakh issue was resolved in September
12.02.2024 11:00
The Karabakh issue is closed. It was resolved in September, Russia's ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mikhail Evdokimov, told the Izvestia newspaper.

"The Karabakh issue is closed. During all these years, Russia has tried to resolve the Karabakh problem peacefully. Unfortunately, it didn't work: this thread was closed by an anti-terror operation in September. Russia always plays a very important role in this matter. Russia is ready to provide maximum support in negotiations on a peace agreement between the parties," the diplomat said.

Recalling the exchange of peace treaty drafts between Baku and Yerevan, the ambassador emphasized that Azerbaijan's proposal was 'fully justified':

"Now Armenia and Azerbaijan directly exchange drafts of peace agreements. What the Azerbaijani side proposed, in my opinion, is entirely justified, as a rule, standard clauses and articles existing in peace agreements between the parties. In principle, based on the proposals put forward by Baku, it seems to me that these negotiations can be completed quickly enough."

Evdokimov also said that Russia is ready to assist the parties in matters such as presenting the Moscow platform: "We are ready to present the Moscow platform, and if necessary, we are ready to provide our expertise and advice on the text. We have excellent mutual relations with our Azerbaijani colleagues."
