Russian city to host World Chess Cup

The international chess federation, FIDE, and the chess federation of Russia’s Khanty-Mansi region (also known as Yugra) have signed an agreement to hold the 2019 World Cup in the western Siberian city of Khanty-Mansiysk, the FIDE press service has said, TASS reports.

The agreement was signed by FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich and Yugra Chess Federation President Vasily Filipenko.

The event will run from September 9 to October 4. Its prize fund stands at $1.6 million. The winner and the runner up will qualify for the 2020 Candidates Tournament.

Khanty-Mansiisk will host the World Cup for the fifth time. The West Siberian city hosted the tournament in 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011.
