The Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Istanbul has asked information from the Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs in connection with the detention of a Russian citizen after the shooting incident in a church, reported from TASS.

The incident occurred around 11:40 local time on January 28 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in the Sariyer district. Two masked assailants opened fire during a service, killing a Turkish citizen born in 1972.

As Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya told reporters, police detained 47 people on suspicion of involvement in the shooting, including citizens of Russia and Tajikistan.
