Russian MFA talks on Pashinyan's statement on transfer of monitoring over Zangazur Corridor to Federal Security Service

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has commented at a regular briefing on the statement by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan that Clause 9 of the trilateral statement provides for the possibility of granting the Russian Federal Security Service the function of monitoring the Zangazur Corridor, but not controlling it.

The diplomat noted that Russia proceeds from the agreements reached at the highest level within the trilateral format.

"The trilateral working group, created on the instructions of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia, has agreed on the main parameters for unblocking railway communication, including transit between the main territory of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic through the Syunik region of Armenia... It is advisable to coordinate various interpretations in the same format in which these issues were considered. Therefore, we see no alternative to this (trilateral agreements - ed.) and will continue to work in this direction," emphasized Zakharova.

Clause 9 of the statement by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and the Russian Federation states: "<...> Control over transport shall be exercised by the bodies of the Border Guard Service of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia <...>".
