Scholz: Germany to create sufficient gas infrastructure in 2023

By mid-2023, enough infrastructure will be created in Germany to provide gas, albeit at higher prices, Chancellor Olaf Scholz said during his visit to Potsdam, reported from foreign media.

He noted that the authorities are paying attention to building LNG terminals along the north German coast, as well as laying pipelines for gas imports from Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium, France and the UK.

The German chancellor also said that the filling of storage facilities with gas continues.

"Last year, empty storage facilities caused problems. Now these storage facilities are filling up… We have ambitious goals, we will soon reach the level of 75% storage capacity, it is planned to reach 85 and 95%. Despite the difficulties with gas supplies via Nord Stream, we continue to fill storage facilities," Scholz emphasized.

Nord Stream, the main route for gas supplies from Russia to Europe, has been operating with restrictions since mid-June, and since the end of July, it has been operating at only 20% of its nearly 170 million cubic meters of throughput capacity per day.
