Serbia wants to strengthen relations with Azerbaijan

The Serbian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Zoran Vaevich held a press conference at the Interfax agency where he appreciated the bilateral relations. According to the ambassador, is expected that the Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov will visit Serbia in 2014.

The regular meetings of the intergovernmental commission will be held in Serbia on 3rd-4th March, and for this purpose the Minister of Economic Development Shahin Mustafayev will travel to Belgrade. 

Several visits are expected, which are now being agreed. "Serbia is interested in the elimination of the visa regime with Azerbaijan, and we are also interested in strengthening and developing cooperation in the field of medicine, tourism and sport," he said.

He recalled the visit of Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic to  Azerbaijan in 2013. A joint declaration on friendship and strategic partnership, together with bilateral agreements in many areas were signed during the visit. 

It was particularly noted that the two sides support each other in the international arena. Trade turnover between the two countries in 2012-13 reached 40 million euros, the ambassador said. Different agreements for 450 million euros were signed with  Azerbaijan in various fields.

Azerbaijan has allocated a loan of 308 million euros for Serbia for the construction of roads. There are other ongoing projects, said Zoran Vayevich.

According to him, communication in art, cinema and literature are developing; the works of Serbian and Azerbaijani writers  will be translated.
