(BBC) - A group of MPs are calling for laws to make it illegal to pay for sex.
They hope that criminalising the clients, rather than the people working in the sex industry, would reduce the demand for prostitutes and help cut down on trafficking.
A current sex worker and member of the English Collective of Prostitutes, a group which lobby's on behalf of sex-workers, said the proposals would drive women into poverty.
However a former sex worker who campaigned to have the law introduced in Northern Ireland, said it would stop people being bought and sold as "items".
