A severe storm has killed at least six people in the US, as tornadoes and thunderstorms battered the Midwest.Winds of 70mph and torrential rains swept across Illinois’ most populous city Chicago causing far-reaching damage, bringing down homes, uprooting trees and rupturing gas mains.An elderly man and his sister were killed when a tornado struck their Illinois home, though no more details are known about the other fatalities.As many as 65 tornadoes made landfall in Illinois, where 56,000 people in Chicago have also been left without power, according to local media reports.‘The whole neighbourhood’s gone.
