The Cabinet of Ministers prohibited the use of smartphones inside the government building after the Milli Maclis, or parliament, announced a similar ban last week.

“No one opposed the decision,” Akif Ali, a spokesman for the cabinet, said in an interview with AzVision.az news website.

Ali said the ban had been imposed long before the formal decision.

“This was done to preserve state secrets and ensure security,” he said.

The ban had been in force at the Milli Maclis since Jan. 1.
