Azerbaijan’s state energy company SOCAR has invited foreign experts to help extinguish the rig fire that has been blazing at the offshore Guneshli oilfield since Dec. 4, local media reported.
The foreigners were invited from the United States, the ANS television channel said, without giving the names of the experts or the organizations they represent.
ANS said progress has been made in efforts to extinguish the fire with the help of the foreign experts, although the blaze still persists.
"If things continue like this, we’ll put the fire out tomorrow the latest,” ANS said, citing a company official.
An oil worker died and 29 others were missing in the deadliest accident in Azerbaijan’s oil industry. Six bodies have been recovered from the sea so far and the search for the remaining workers is still continuing.
