SOCAR joins project to build Ionian-Adriatic gas pipeline

 State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) has joined the project to build the Ionian-Adriatic Gas Pipeline (IAP), Croatian media reported.


Representatives of the government's of Montenegro, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia signed a memorandum of understanding with SOCAR on the construction of the IAP on Friday during an energy form in Dubrovnik, the report said.


SOCAR Balkans Murad Geidarov said after the signing that SOCAR's goal is to connect the Caspian Sea to the Adriatic Sea. The southern corridor, which includes IAP, is an important part of the company's plans, and SOCAR has established good relations with countries involved in this project, he said.


Montenegrin Economy Minister Vladimir Kavaric said that the IAP is the only way to bring gas to Montenegro, so the country's government is prepared to everything it can to accelerate and successfully implement the project.


The implementation of the project could become an excellent example of regional cooperation and the countries can succeed if they work together, Kavaric said.
