Socar says repairs partially completed at Baku refinery

Azerbaijan’s state energy company Socar has said repairs at two units of the Heydar Aliyev refinery in the capital, Baku, has been completed.

These include the catalytic reformer and coking units, the company said in a statement on its website.

Socar President Rovnaq Abdullayev and Vice President Davud Mammadov visited the refinery to inspect the units after the repairs.

The company said major repairs are still underway at the catalytic cracker unit, which produces high-octane gasoline.

Azerbaijan stopped production of 95-octane gasoline and started importing it as of April 1. That led to a 55-percent rise in the price of the fuel.

Socar currently operates two Soviet-built refineries. It plans to build a modern refinery and petrochemical complex in Baku's Qaradag district by 2020.
