Socar’s Tanap pipeline may carry Iraqi, Turkmen gas as well

Iraq is a “short-term serious” gas supply source for Turkey, Sefa Sadik Aytekin, deputy undersecretary at Turkey’s Energy Ministry, said in Istanbul. 

Aytekin also says Turkey’s state pipeline concern Botas needs to spend $6 billion to $7 billion for gas pipelines, including Tanap. He said Iranian gas is the most expensive for Turkey. The international arbitration tribunal on Turkey’s demand to cut Iran gas price will meet in Geneva this week, he said.

Aytekin said Turkey to pass updated gas market law this year. The law needs “deep debate” on certain aspects, the official said, adding Turkey will further liberalize its gas market this year.
