Turkiye doesn’t have information about gas volumes that the EU countries will be ready to buy from Russia if a gas hub is created on the territory of the republic, according to a source in the Turkish government,  reported from TASS.

"At the moment, it remains unclear how much gas the Europeans will want to buy from Russia. Some European countries intend to return nuclear power plants to operation so as not to depend on Russian gas, and it seems that events will develop in a similar way in other countries. Therefore, there is no information now about how much they want to buy Russian gas through the hub,” the source said.

Meanwhile, on October 25, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkiye, Fatih Donmez, said that the republic intends to decide by the end of the year on a roadmap for creating a gas center on its territory at the suggestion of Moscow. At the same time, he stressed that so far ‘there are no exact dates for negotiations with Russia’ on this topic.

The idea of creating Europe’s largest gas hub in Turkiye, where it is possible to redirect the lost volume of energy carrier intended for transit through the Nord Stream pipeline, Russian President Vladimir Putin put forward last week at the Russian Energy Week forum. He noted that this includes the possibility of building another gas pipeline system and creating a distribution center in Turkiye, through which gas will be supplied to third countries, primarily European ones, if they express interest in this.

The issue of creating such a hub was discussed on October 13 in Astana at the talks between the Russian and Turkish leaders. President of Turkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan noted that the hub is planned to be established in the shortest possible time, and the Trakya region in the European part of Turkiye is the most suitable place for it.
