On May 27, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during a visit to Madrid, will meet with King Philip VI, as well as with the country's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, with whom he will sign a bilateral security agreement. It includes the supply of a wide range of military equipment, including a new batch of Patriot missiles, 19 Leopard 2A4 tanks, as well as a large number of materials produced in Spain.
It is expected that some weapons may be sent to Ukraine before June 30, including missiles and tanks. Many weapons will be made by Spanish companies, so their delivery may be delayed until production is completed. It is planned that the agreement will initially last for two years, with the possibility of extension up to three years.
Zelenskyy was planning to visit Spain on May 17, but was forced to cancel the trip. The security agreement it wants to sign with Sanchez is similar to those Kyiv has already signed with a number of other countries, including Germany and Italy. It is aimed at guaranteeing long-term military support for Ukraine.
