World Cup: 100 days to go

World Cup: 100 days to go
29.05.2020 09:34
Tuesday marks an important milestone in preparations for this summer’s World Cup as it is now just 100 days until the tournament kicks off with Brazil taking on Croatia on June 12.

For the host nation, this may induce a slight sense of panic given that multiple stadia are running behind schedule, meaning they have limited time to conduct test events and ensure security and training procedures are up to scratch.FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke even said at the weekend: "We are working in conditions where the cement is not even dry. We still have to install all the IT solutions for the media. Without IT and without the telecommunications in place in the stadium you will say we are the worst organisers and it was the worst event."But while FIFA frets, for football fans across the globe the 100-day mark only signifies that the greatest sporting event in the world is drawing tantalisingly close. At Eurosport-Yahoo we are excited too, and will be publishing a fun fact for each of the 100 days as the countdown continues to the start of the tournament. We kick off with an infographic which details why host nation Brazil is joining a prestigious club…As the tournament draws closer we will also be bringing you our World Cup lists, looking at the greatest players, moments, goals and controversies to earn a place in tournament folklore.Today we kick things off with a look back at 10 of the best anecdotes around international kits – and yes, Jorge Campos makes an appearance. If that doesn’t sate your appetite why not revisit our comprehensive preview package.Below you can find details of all the 32 teams who will compete in Brazil, profiles of the host venues, details on the brazuca ball and some predictions from our experts.GROUP ABrazil; Croatia; Mexico; Cameroon.GROUP BSpain; Netherlands; Chile; Australia.GROUP CColombia; Greece; Ivory Coast; Japan.GROUP DUruguay; Costa Rica; England; Italy.GROUP ESwitzerland; Ecuador; France; Honduras.GROUP FArgentina; Bosnia-Herzegovina; Iran; Nigeria.GROUP GGermany; Portugal; Ghana; United States.GROUP HBelgium; Algeria; Russia; South Korea. The iconic Maracana has undergone a refit and no longer boasts the capacity to hold almost 200,000 supporters, as it did for the 1950 final when Uruguay defeated Brazil in a huge shock, but 80,000 people will still pack in for the final. Have a read of our in-depth guide for details on all the venues.(uk.eurosport.yahoo.com)ANN.Az
