Surfer comes terrifyingly close to 'great white' - VIDEO

Surfing legend Kelly Slater has filmed himself riding a wave perilously close to what appears to be a great white shark in Western Australia.

The 11-time world champion is seen surfing at the Box, near Margaret River, when a a mysterious creature appears in the wave as he passes by around 17 seconds into the footage. The video was recorded on a GoPro device for the 2014 Drug Aware Pro Challenge - with the winner of the best clip awarded a cool $10,000.Other skeptics believe the mystery creature is just a fish, not a great white shark as claimed. There is even some debate as to whether it’s just his reflection. Some have also claimed it is just a digitally enhanced publicity stunt by Kelly to promote the challenge.Upon winning his 5th world title in 1997, Slater passed Australian surfer Mark Richards to become the most successful champion in the history of the sport. In May 2005, in the final heat of the Billabong Tahiti Pro contest at Teahupo'o, Slater became the first surfer ever to be awarded two perfect scores for a total 20 out of 20 points under the ASP two-wave scoring system - a feat he did again in June 2013 at the Volcom Fiji Pro.(dailymail.co.uk)ANN.Az
