Sweden faces shortage of weapons after providing assistance to Ukraine

Sweden faces shortage of weapons after providing assistance to Ukraine
21.02.2024 14:00
The Swedish army is now unable to make up for the shortage in its weapons reserves, which arose due to the provision of military assistance to Ukraine and lack of funds, a commander of the Swedish army, Major General Jonny Lindrofs told SVT,  reported from TASS.

"The financial compensation provided to the armed forces [by the Swedish government] is not enough to replace carload after carload [of transferred weapons]. The fact that the army has been experiencing a shortage of weapons for some time means that Sweden's defense capabilities are declining,” he said.

The situation is further complicated by the fact that prices for weapons and military equipment have now increased; for some military goods by two or more times, notes SVT. The Swedish army is also experiencing a shortage of personnel, since, according to the TV channel, a significant number of military personnel have left for Ukraine as instructors and consultants for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
