"Our military, political and economic support for Ukraine <...> remains the main foreign policy objective for the coming years,” he noted. "Strong, predictable and sustainable support for Ukraine is also our main opportunity to limit Russia’s options.” The foreign minister added that "Sweden insists within the European Union on tightening sanctions and limiting Russia’s ability to finance” the special military operation.
He noted that the government of the kingdom proceeds from the fact that in the foreseeable future the Russian Federation allegedly "will pose a serious threat to the security of Sweden.” Billström also called for "being realistic” and "starting to prepare for a long-term confrontation.”
Since the spring of 2022, Swedish military assistance to Ukraine has amounted to 22.2 billion kroner ($2.17 billion). Total aid reached 30 billion kroner ($2.93 billion).
