Swiss company SITA bans Russian aviation from using .aero domain

The Swiss services company for civil aviation (SITA) has decided to block air transport companies from Russia from accessing the international aviation top-level domain zone .aero that it administers, reported from Izvestia newspaper.

On November 10, SITA stopped providing Russian clients with services for registering and renewing domains in this zone.

However, there was no immediate shutdown or failure - the domains were urgently renewed for a year. Experts believe that this time should be enough to move to national zones.

According to the LetSearch.ru service, more than 200 websites are registered in Russia in the .aero domain zone. The domain is used by about 30 airports, including Sheremetyevo, Zhukovsky, as well as 15 Russian airlines - Pobeda, Azimut, Alrosa, etc.

Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Igor Chalik said that Russian airlines were ready to be disconnected from the .aero domain and it would not have serious consequences.
