A reassurance from Berlin followed this decision, ensuring the tanks will not be transferred to Kyiv. Instead, they will remain within Germany, EU countries, or NATO countries, serving to bolster their armament.
The Leopard 2A4, part of the Leopard 2 family, has seen extensive use due to its advanced features. It boasts an automated fire and explosion suppressant system, an all-digital fire control system for handling new ammunition types, and an advanced turret containing flat titanium/tungsten armor.
With a production run from 1985 to 1992, all Leopard 2 models have been upgraded to the 2A4 standard. Germany operates 2,125 2A4s, the Netherlands an additional 445 tanks, and the 2A4 was also produced in Switzerland as the Pz 87 "Leopard” with Swiss modifications.
