The Story of a Song: Garabag VIDEO

First this song was heard on the radio in 1972 and performed by a young talented singer Arif Babayev. The fate of this song is not like the fate of other songs. This song is believed to be a folk one, but it has an author. It is noteworthy that due to lack of confidence in the popularity of the song, it was not sounded a long time. And finally, a fluke introduced the audience to this song. The name of this song may confuse, because there are a lot of songs with the same name. However, you should hear a couple of its lines, as it will at once become clear what song is meant. Thus, a prominent talent in the Azerbaijani music, a poet, a playwright, a essayist, an outstanding musician and composer, but unfortunately, unfairly subjected to attacks due to lack of a diploma, Bahram Nasibov is the author of the song Garabag, about which we 'll talk today.

Bahram Nasibov was born in the village Rafadinli of the Fizuli region in 1941. His father was also a musician. Love of music was passed on genetically to Bahram. From a young age Bahram felt this gift and gravitated toward creativity. He entered the University of the Arts to become an actor, where he showed high intelligence. Bahram was an excellent student up to the last course. However, due to a misunderstanding he was accused of a conflict and he was forced to leave the University without completing his education. After 15 years, Bahram returned to college and got a degree. And he proved that they treated him unfairly. It is worth noting that, in parallel with studies, Bahram had to work . The most striking manifestation of his talent falls on this time period. The first songs were written then. According to Bahram's children, his first song was Garabag.

The song Garabag was written in 1968. It is worth noting that Bahram Nasibov came to the music world with a tar, but then he switched to the guitar. He performed with a guitar at weddings and thus became known among the people. But Bahram had a special relationship with tar. He played his newly written first song on the tar. In the University years Bahram first lived in a dorm, then also began to rent an apartment, sharing it with the singer Arif Babayev, whom he offered to sing this song. Babayev did not like the song very much and he did not believe in the success of it. However, a few years later Babayev remembered about this song.

Bahram Nasibov is the author of about 200 songs, Gal Sene Gurban, Ey Nazli Dilberim, Neychun Bes, Ay Deli Jeyran, Seni Gemli Gorende, Al-elvan Geyib Chemen, Deyin Hardadir, Gejeler, Khatirla Meni, Sensiz Yashaya Bilmirem, Intizar and others. Each of these songs to this day adorns the repertoire of our singers. Bahram Nasibov's songs are national to the bone. That is why they are often mistaken for a folk song. Very often, he wrote not only the music, but also the words of his songs. He also wrote lyric poems, often composing on the go. His friends say that they often witnessed how he composed extemporaneously. He wrote stories, skits, dramas and satirical poems. Having lost his father at an early age, Bahram had to raise his family. Bahram Nasibov was a very simple man.

When the song Garabag was sung, Bahram Nasibov was already known as the author of several songs. Apparently, this fact made Arif Babayev remember the song Garabag. Once the song sounded in the air, it immediately gained enormous popularity. The song became so well known and loved that no event with Arif Babayev's participation could be ever imagined without this song.

Despite the fact that Nasibov's songs were broadcast and were very popular, nowhere mentioned that he was their author. That was a feature of the period. It was impossible to write about a composer without a diploma.

Then began to appear new artists for the song Garabag. One of the performancers belongs to the Garabag Bulbulleri team created by Murad Rzayev. This team helped the creation of a short movie commissioned by the Central Television in 1977. This movie is about four schoolchildren - members of the team Garabag Bulbulleri. The quartet sang Garabag. And a fragment of this performance was included in the film.

In 1978 Suleyman Abdullayev recorded his rendition of the song Garabag commissioned by Radio and Television for New Year's concert. In order to shorten the song, it was decided not to perform the mugham.

In 1984, Tamilla Mammadova performed and recorded the song Garabag. It was the final performance in the Soviet period. However, the song continued to be popular and performed.

In the 1990s the theme of Karabakh (Garabag) became painful and urgent topic for the Azerbaijani people. And of course, a song called Garabag already sounded otherwise, with a heavy heart and love for the homeland. During this period, more performers applied to the song - Yagut Abdullayeva, Aygun Beyler, Tayar Bayramov, Sabuhi Ibayev, Elnur Zeynalov, Gochag Askerov, Mansum Ibrahimov, Nazakat Teymurova, Aygun Bayramova, and even crooners, Brilliant Dadasheva and Aygun Kazimova.

Sabuhi Ibayev recorded the song performed by a trio in 2005. The performance came bright and interesting. Sabuhi also performed the mugham fragment.

Yagut Abdullayeva also recorded her performance already in the 21st century. She sang the song accompanied by an orchestra of folk musical instruments.

The song performed by Kenul Hasiyeva appeared before the listener in another form, as the voice timbre and texture of Kenul Hasiyeva differs from those of all the previous performers.

Such an amount of performers allows the listener to select those close to his heart in performing the song Garabag.

The next artist, which is worth noting, is Aygun Beyler. Her performance was recorded in 2003. However, at the Philharmonic solo concert by the singer in 2007, this song was performed live. And the whole audience was standing with ovation and singing the song with the singer.

As you can see, the song does not limit its artist or genre or style. And, of course, a number of artists talk about the indisputable success of the song Garabag. The song is loved and demanded nowadays. Geographical boundaries of this song are wider than we imagine. The song could be heard in the performance of Turkish singers recently. In the recent years, the song entered the Turkish album «Turk dunyasinin savashlarinin muzikteki izleri». The album also showed the author of the song. On the pages of the album there are also the dates of the Karabakh war, and the victims and the tragedy of the Azerbaijani people and the numerical and territorial losses are described. The artist Ali Heydargyul sang the song in this album. Thus, the great mission of this song was performed. It remains only to wait for the day when the song Garabag will be triumphantly sounded in our native land Karabakh.
