A top Iranian official says the Islamic Republic attaches particular importance to the development of bilateral relations with the Republic of Azerbaijan, Press TV reported.
During a meeting with visiting Azerbaijani Minister of Communications and Information Technology Ali Abbasov in Tehran on Wednesday, Iran’s First Vice President Es'haq Jahangiri pointed to numerous cultural, historical and religious affinities between Iran and Azerbaijan, noting that such commonalities have prepared the ground for further enhancement of friendly and brotherly ties between Tehran and Baku.
He also lauded the wise measures taken by Azerbaijani authorities to thwart conspiracies aimed at disrupting relations between the two neighboring countries.
The high-ranking Iranian official called for an increase in the volume of trade transactions between Iran and Azerbaijan.
Abbasov, for his part, praised Tehran’s position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, adding that Baku is looking forward to the final settlement of the issue.
