Today Azerbaijan celebrates "Yel charshanbasi” (Wind Tuesday)
According to ancient beliefs, four different winds sleep underground. They go out to the surface, appear in different forms. According to mythology, "white wind” appears in a white dress, gara-yel (black wind) - a black, Khazri (north wind) - the blue and gilavar (southern wind) - in the red, APA reports.
On this day all these winds wake up and wander around the world, reviving the water and driving the fire, which in turn tells about the imminent arrival of spring. Novruz Holiday's coming is felts on this day.
On this day "Yel baba" ("Father of Wind") ceremonies are conducted, which is linked with the traditions of farming.
The first day of the ancient holiday of Novruz falls on the spring equinox, 20 or 21 March, the day when the hours of daylight approximately equal those of darkness.
The Noruz holiday is rich with ancient traditions and games. Khidir Ilyas is the symbol of productivity and Kos-Kosa shows that spring is coming.

Novruz is an ancient holiday symbolizing the coming of spring, it means "New Day”.
Novruz is celebrated on the day of vernal equinox (March 20, 21 or 22). A number of nations attributed coming of spring to the revival of nature, held festivities and celebrated it as the beginning of the new year. Beginning from ancient times, along with Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and some other eastern people, Azerbaijani Turks have also been celebrating the coming of spring – new year.
On September 30, 2009, Novruz was included into UNESCO’s List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. On February 23, 2010, UN declared March 21 the International Day of Novruz.
This holiday is solemnly celebrated in Azerbaijan. Festivities are held on this occasion in the country.
