Tokayev holds Security Council meeting on situation in Russia

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting of the Security Council on the situation in Russia, reported from Kazakh media.

Tokayev listened to the reports of the Prime Minister, the Prosecutor General, the Chairman of the National Security Committee, the Ministers of Defense, the Interior, and Foreign Affairs on measures to fulfill orders in connection with the situation in the Russian Federation.

Although what happened in Russia is an internal affair, the people of Kazakhstan perceived with concern the situation in the friendly country with which Kazakhstan has its longest land border.

President Tokayev noted that Russia is a strategic partner of Kazakhstan. The head of state recalled that in a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, he supported the measures of the Russian authorities to restore constitutional order and ensure the safety of their citizens.

Tokayev welcomed the agreement on the cessation of hostilities. In his opinion, the key priority of the internal policy of any state, including Kazakhstan, should be the principle of the rule of law as the basis for ensuring public order and socio-economic development.

During the meeting, the need to ensure financial and economic stability in the country, as well as the security of Kazakhstani citizens was noted.

The president instructed the heads of all departments to be ready to respond to possible threats of crises.

Following the meeting of the Security Council, he approved the Operational Action Plan developed by the government.
