Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has said he discussed energy cooperation with his Azerbaijani and Turkmen counterparts during the second trilateral foreign ministers' meeting held in Ashgabat last week.
Çavuşoğlu met with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov in the Turkmen capital.
Speaking at a joint press conference with the ministers, Çavuşoğlu stressed the strong historical, cultural and economic ties between the countries, adding that all parties hope to strengthen those relations.
Cooperation on energy was the main topic discussed during the meeting, according to a statement from the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
"Çavuşoğlu stated that during the meetings they discussed how to safely deliver Azerbaijani and Turkmen gas from the Caspian basin to the European countries through Turkey,” the statement read.
According to Çavuşoğlu, the trilateral meeting will lead to presidential summits in the future.
Last year, Azerbaijan held the first trilateral foreign ministers' meeting in Baku.
