Turkey and Russia have agreed on a comprehensive truce plan which will be presented to the sides of the conflict in Syria, Anadolu Agency reported Dec. 28 citing sources in the Turkish government.

The plan is offered to be enacted in particular in the area of conflict between the Syrian government and the country’s opposition forces.

The sides of the conflict will be offered to stop fighting starting from 00:00 Dec. 29 as part of the Turkish-Russian agreement.

The ceasefire agreement doesn’t cover terrorist organizations.

If the truce agreement is successful, the Syrian government and the opposition will in Astana discuss the political settlement of the conflict with the support of Turkey and Russia.

Turkey and Russia will act as guarantors of the settlement. The agreement is aimed to promote the advancement of the political process as envisaged by the UN General Assembly resolution 2254 on Syria.

Syria has been suffering from an armed conflict since March 2011, which, according to the UN, has so far claimed over 500,000 lives.
