The draft proposal and corresponding letters of approval for the deal with F-16 fighter jets by the US have been received in the Turkish Ministry of Defense, reported from TRT Haber TV channel, citing sources.

"The Department has received a draft proposal and letter from the US regarding our request to purchase 40 new F-16 Block-70s and upgrade the existing 79 F-16s in accordance with the needs of the Air Force command. The project also includes ammunition, materials and equipment for these aircraft. Relevant divisions have begun to evaluate the proposal,” the TV channel quotes the source as saying.

The Ministry of Defense also noted that the final cost of the transaction will be clear at the finalization stage of the project.

A source in the Ministry of Defense also touched upon the prospects for the purchase of Eurofighter fighters. A potential deal is being discussed with countries involved in the consortium that produces the aircraft.

Türkiye previously reported that all participants in the Eurofighter consortium agreed to sell these fighters to Türkiye, except Germany, which has not yet clearly stated its position.
