Turkish diplomat: Nikol Pashinyan is playing with fire by confronting Russia

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is playing with fire by confronting Russia because neither the US nor France is the region’s country, a former Turkish Consul General in Los Angeles, Gulru Gezer, said in an article titled "Is the window of opportunity for peace in the South Caucasus shrinking?"

She noted that Russia may be tired of the war in Ukraine, but it has not given up its interests in the Caucasus: "Russia does not want Armenia's rapprochement with the West and the development of relations with the EU and NATO. Russia has repeatedly stated that it supports the peace treaty between the two countries. But Russia is not very keen on Pashinyan, who is getting closer to the West, staying in power.”

According to the diplomat, if the US, France and some Western countries are sincere about permanent peace in the South Caucasus, they should first of all influence the Armenian diaspora in their countries: "Armenia should not be used as a 'trump card' for Russia. Also, direct contacts between Baku and Yerevan should be encouraged.”
