Following the rape and murder of a student, Ozgecan Arslan, in Turkey’s Mersin province, several ministers of the country demanded to use death penalty against the criminal.
Death penalty was abolished in Turkey in 2001.
The 20-year-old Ozgecan Arslan was raped and killed by a bus driver a week ago.
Her body was discovered in a river in Turkey’s south.
The local media reported that Arslan resisted the criminal by using a gasbag.
Three people – the bus driver, his father and friend who helped him get rid of the evidence - have been arrested over the murder.
Thousands of women took part in the protests held on Feb.13 after Arslan’s death became known.
