Turkish, Russian leaders discuss Karabakh

Turkish Prime Minister Recep TayyipErdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin had an exchange of views on theNagorno-Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan in Moscow.

 

Erdogan said both Turkey and Russia havean obligation to help resolve the long-running conflict in the region,according to RIA Novosti news agency.

 

“There are common steps that we shouldtake,” he said.

 

Armenia captured nearly 20 percent ofAzerbaijan’s internationally-recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakhand seven surrounding districts, in a war after the Soviet breakup in 1991.

 

Large-scale hostilities ended with aRussia-brokered ceasefire in 1994 and the sides have yet to sign a peaceagreement.
