Ukraine eyes convening UN Security Council due to blow-up of Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant

More than 150 tons of engine oil got into the Dnipro River due to the blow-up of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant by the Russian Armed Forces. However, there is a risk of further leakage, reported from RBC-Ukraine.

The members of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council were informed that at least 150 tons of machine lubricant got into the Dnipro, there is a risk of further leakage of more than 300 tons, the report says.

The meeting also agreed on a set of measures. They include convening a meeting of the UN Security Council, an appeal to international environmental organizations and the International Criminal Court, since such actions of the Russian Armed Forces contain signs of a violation of the Geneva Convention.

In addition, the participants of the meeting were informed about the current situation at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. It is noted that the Ukrainian staff of the plant keeps the situation under control and has tools in case of development of events.
