Ukrainian parliament wants to soften law on desertion

Ukrainian parliament wants to soften law on desertion
10.06.2024 13:30
A bill on improving criminal liability for desertion has been registered in the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine, reported from RBC Ukraine.

It is proposed to establish that a person who, during martial law, for the first time committed a criminal offense, such as unauthorized abandonment of a military unit or desertion, may be exempt from criminal liability.

To do this, it is necessary that the serviceman, before the end of the pre-trial investigation, voluntarily declare to the investigator or prosecutor his intention to return to the military unit or place of service to continue his service.
