Plans for new measures may be made public during the G7 summit in Japan, which will be held May 19-21.
The US and Japan are reportedly preparing their own sanctions packages against Russia, while Canada is working on human rights measures and sanctions against the Russian defense industry.
G7 leaders are expected to expand restrictions on technology and equipment used by the Russian military and industry. It is also reported that exceptions to the G7 sanctions against the Russian Federation are likely to relate to agricultural products, food and medicine. In addition, G7 leaders are expected to make progress in tracking the movement of Russian diamonds abroad, which could eventually lead to restrictions on this trade.
As part of the new EU sanctions, it is planned to introduce individual sanctions against approximately 30 Russian citizens.
During the G7 summit, the issue of what has already worked and what options still remain in terms of further pressure on the Russian economy will be discussed.
