Violence intensifies between Palestinians and Israeli security forces

Violence between Palestinians and Israeli security forces has broken out in a number of locations across the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

According to the Red Crescent as many as 90 Palestinians have been injured suffering from rubber bullet wounds and tear gas inhalation.

Earlier thousands gathered in Bethlehem for the funeral of a 13-year-old Palestinian boy who was shot in chest by Israeli soldiers on Monday.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the measures his government has taken in response to the unrest:
"We are using additional security forces. They have clear instruction to act against any danger to life of their own and to innocent people. We are the guarantors of the sacred sites of Islam. We are the reason that the sacred sites of Islam, or the sacred sites of Christianity and Judaism, don’t look like Palmyra in Syria.”

Palestinian executive committee members met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah and prayed for the victims of the violence.

Abbas called for an end to the Israeli crack down:
"Israel must stop its aggression and reach out for peace because we want to reach a political solution with peaceful methods and not other means.”

Earlier the Israeli military demolished the family homes of two suspected Palestinian terrorists.

The destruction went ahead despite the fact both men were shot dead by Israeli troops last year.

Palestinians accused Israel of a policy of collective punishment.
