Virgin train derails and crashes into buffers at Chester station

A Virgin train smashed through the buffers at Chester railway station to crash into the platform, leaving one passenger in hospital with back injuries.

The 10.10am service from London Euston completely failed to stop at the station and partially derailed, smashing into the buffers.A 64-year-old man was taken to hospital, however no one else is believed to have been hurt in the incident which happened at around 12.10pm.Witnesses and passengers said the train was travelling at a slow speed in preparation to stop, however it simple ‘over ran’ into the buffers before hitting a glass wall.Jack Pickering wrote on his Twitter page: ‘The @VirginTrains train I was on from London has just crashed at Chester station. I believe everyone is okay.’A spokesperson for Virgin Trains said: ‘We confirm that an incident took place earlier today at Chester Station.‘It took place at approximately 12.10pm and the train involved was the 10.10am Virgin Trains’ service from London Euston to Chester.‘No other train was involved. The train is currently in a bay platform so it will not affect any other services.’A statement from British Transport Police said: ‘All coaches of the five-car train have remained upright.‘One man has been taken to a local hospital by North West Ambulance Service, with reported injuries to his back.‘The incident is currently being treated as a railway operating incident.’The statement added that an investigation is now underway to establish the ‘full circumstances surrounding the derailment’.(metro.co.uk)ANN.Az
