Washington Times holds discussions on US-Azerbaijan ties

The Washington Times has organized discussions in Capitol Hill on "Geopolitics in the Caspian basin: Why US-Azerbaijani alliance is important.”

Azerbaijan’s ambassador to the US, Elin Suleymanov; the chairman of the international and inter-parliamentary relations committee of Azerbaijan’s parliament, Samad Seyidov; and the leader of the Democratic Reforms Party of Azerbaijan, MP Asim Mollazade, participated in the discussions.

Mollazade said US-Azerbaijani relations have been built on strong foundations. He highlighted security cooperation between the two countries.

Azerbaijan has contributed to US-led peacekeeping operations in the Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan. Azerbaijani troops are currently helping ensure security at Kabul airport, Mollazade said.

The lawmaker said Azerbaijan has also contributed to efforts to rebuild Afghanistan. He stressed the country’s role in the transportation of non-lethal NATO goods to Afghanistan.

Mollazade said terrorism cannot be defeated by force only, stressing the importance of education to eradicate the evil. Azerbaijan is a role model in this field, he said.
