Drone footage captures the heartwarming moment a female humpback whale gave her baby calf a piggyback ride in Hawaiian waters earlier this year. Photographer Justin Edwards, 33, was boating off the coast of Maui last February when he spotted the mother and child and launched his drone with connected camera. The resulting footage shows the whale mother carrying the calf on her back as she swims through the blue waters - just like a human parent would. Mr Edwards took the video on February 14 off the coast of Maui near Kihei. He said he wanted to take the video so he could show his young sons what a whale looks like up close. 'They would normally only see them blowing air from a long way away - Now they know how big and majestic these creatures are!' Mr Edwards wrote on his website, Drone Above.Humpback whales usually nurse their babies for a year, though calves don't reach full maturity until they are 10 years old.
