WHO calls for vaccination against Mpox

The World Health Organization (WHO) has called for the vaccination against Mpox (monkeypox).

According to the information via NTV Haber, WHO spokeswoman Margaret Harris emphasized the importance of vaccination. She mentioned that the chickenpox vaccine is also effective against monkeypox:

"It is easier to prevent the spread of this disease compared to COVID-19. There are two types of monkeypox: Clade-1 and Clade-2. We are particularly concerned about Clade-1 because it spreads very quickly and has resulted in many deaths among children.”

Harris stressed the main concern is the rapid spread of the disease: "There is no need for lockdowns yet, but we do not want monkeypox to spread globally and become a pandemic.”

The African Union Health Service has declared a health emergency on the continent due to the Mpox outbreak.

The WHO has also declared the monkeypox outbreak an emergency. According to the latest WHO data, there have been 77,264 cases of monkeypox and 36 deaths worldwide, with the virus confirmed in 109 countries.
