Work underway in Kazakhstan to expand 3 main oil and gas fields

Major projects in the oil industry of Kazakhstan are being implemented at three main fields - Tengiz, Karachaganak and Kashagan, the head of the country’s Ministry of Energy Almassadam Satkaliyev said during a trip to the Atyrau region, reported from Kazakh media.

Expansion work is underway at the Tengiz field, and the wellhead pressure management project is scheduled to be completed in 2024. This will increase oil production by 12 million tons per year.

"The 4th gas reinjection compressor has been launched at the Karachaganak field, the implementation of the 5th compressor has begun, the cost of which is about $1 billion, and the construction of the 6th compressor worth $735 million,” Satkaliyev said. The projects will allow maintaining production at the field at the level of 10-11 million tons per year.

The minister also said that the implementation of a project for processing associated gas with a capacity of 1 billion cubic meters of gas has begun at Kashagan.

In addition, the construction of a gas processing plant at Kashagan with a capacity of 2 to 6 billion cubic meters of gas continues.
