The floating hotel that could be the future of cruising

The floating hotel that could be the future of cruising

London architect Gianluca Santosuosso's floating hotel concept, MORPHotel, could easily be mistaken as something from J.J. Abrams' new "Star Wars" -- its spine-like design and self-sustaining ecosystem is certainly futuristic.

The vessel, which spans about a half a mile in length, features capsules housing guest accommodations and amenities like theaters, gardens, restaurants, and a swimming pool.

Additionally, a helipad and detachable boats are included to give guests the opportunity to explore the surrounding area.

Is this the future of cruising?
As far as energy is concerned, the MORPHotel integrates solar panels, floating vegetable gardens, and rainwater harvesting facilities to keep the property functioning at sea.

Once docked at ports, guests would have the ability to explore on land, and locals would be given access to the amenities on board.

In theory the project (which, to be clear, has no estimated completion date and for now is little more than renderings) would be able to travel the world, if very slowly.

"I believe the idea of the journey itself, without a precise destination, is a dream shared among most people," Santosuosso told the Daily Mail.
